Sunday Solo?

Have you ever had to drag yourself out of bed when you knew you wanted to go for a ride but your body wasnt quite ready for another hammer fest.

There I was fingars numb already, shivers running up my spine as I tried to slowly pedal out onto the trail. My legs felt weak and my butt was sore sitting in the saddle. But I cranked on some tunes and slowly started to make my way down the trail. After about 20 minutes I got to the beach. The sun was shining and while there was a breeze it was still warmer than the fog. I set up to start my normal cuaseway intervals. I said to myself, all you need to do is 3. The wind at my back and the warmth of the sun on my face made that first intervel go by pretty quickly. As I rode back into the wind I took my time and enjoyed the beutiful day it was becoming. I rode through the park to recover and set up for interval nuber 2. This one had to be faster than the last with a sprint near the end. I started out and held a nice pace. After the last bridge and at my normal sprint point I stood up out of the staddle and launched into a controled sprint. Yep beat my last time, nice. I had forgotten about my aches and pains and the sun was now dancing off the water. The temp had warmed up and it was a great day.

I decided I could put in a few more miles so I was going to take the long way home. As I got the point where I would turn north up the trail the Sunday group ride was just leaving thier mid point stop. I made a split decsion and jumped in the pace line. I hung back at first making sure I could hang in there. Then I started to work my way up until I got about half way. This was comfortable even if it was about 80% of the inverals I just eeked out. I held my position in the sprint and as the group headed back south I turn off back to the north to call it a day feeling as though I just acomplished something. As you can tell it was a small group today with only about 50 or 80 riders. As I write this I realize I am sore again but enjoyed a beautiful day with friends and have this great story to write about.
