Okay, now it's getting cold.
I can be a wuss about getting out the door when it's cold. Once I'm out there, give me five minutes to warm up and I'll ride in the nastiest of weather, but that first step... And with us finally getting a blast of frigid weather, there was quite the internal monologue this morning. Maybe I could ride later, once things have warmed up. Maybe I could put it off until tomorrow. Maybe I should pull out the trainer. etc, etc.
This morning, my willpower was strong. I pulled on my big-boy pants (and long johns, baselayer, mid-layer, vest, windbreaker, various extremity coverings) and greeted the cold. The plan was only for an hour of endurance miles, anyway, and things are only going to get colder from here. Suck it up, I said to myself, and suck it up I did.
14 miles on the Blackborow, trying out 3.7" wheels on the 100mm rims. Worked okay. The Larry and Endomorph seem faster (and quieter) than the 5" 'Beists, but not as fun over the snow and chunky stuff. Still slippery as heck. Headwind from the west really only came into play later in the ride, freezing the uncovered part of my face---no problemo. A good little rest week ride as I look forward to next Saturday's Solstice Chase race.
