Three Peaks Cyclocross 2016
My second, consecutive Three Peaks.
Finish time 4h 21min.
The Three Peaks Cyclocross is an annual cyclocross event over the Yorkshire three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent. Held on the last weekend of September, it bills itself as the "hardest cyclocross race in the world". A total distance of 61km (38 miles); 28km of the route is on road, 33km on unsurfaced ground, and 6-8km on unridable terrain.
While other races may have comparable or even greater distances and height gain - Whernside, the tallest of the Peaks, only reaches 736 metres - it is the combination of gradient, terrain, and weather that give the Three Peaks its reputation.
Ascending the final peak of Pen-y-ghent.
The route takes in the three highest peaks of the Yorkshire Dales - Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent.
