Night Ride - I hurt myself today. To see if I still feel. I focus on the pain. The only thing that's real.

As the city prepares to shutdown for the night, I prepare my bike for the night.

I don't plan my rides. The only plan is to get out of the city and then your guess is as good as mine as to which direction I'll take.

I look up to the hills and it's either "Let's go there" or "Let's go there".

It's not a decision based on weather, time of night or difficulty. It's not even based on mood. Like the menu in your favorite restaurant, you'll like most items but you'll alternate.

There is a freeing feeling knowing that you can climb every mountain in one night if you feel like it, nothing is too hard.

This is my time, there's no turning back.

If someone were to ask me why do I do it? Why do I ride so late at night so far out? Why do I climb so much? My answer would dissapoint:

"Because I can"

Amichai- Homage to Nine Inch Nails. I too remember the 90's when those lyrics meant so much - and how much they have changed in the past twenty years. I love your routes slicing through the Judaen hills. I have a dream of one day returning and conquering the segment from Highway 1 up through Shoeva, Shoresh and Beit Meir, a road I traveled so many times in the days when these lyrics were still seared in my mind. If I'm ever there with bike in tow I'll let you know, those jackals are afraid of packs in the night.
