To the boozer with Tom

Bit of an unexpected ride out today, my friend Tom had already been out and comments were exchanged on Strava, as you do. Turns out he was off out again in the afternoon, and as the weather forecast was ok I arranged to meet up with him in Barrow Upon Soar.

My plan was to ride a 16 mile loop from Sileby, pick up Tom in Barrow then head off towards Wymswold and Seagrave, finishing back in Sileby. Well that didn't happen, we ended up at The Plough in Wysall instead where ale and cider was duly drunk.

I know I know, booze and cycling don't mix but the mere mention of a 'cheeky vimto' is too hard to refuse, so that's what we did. A great chat and one 'Rock on at Christmas' guest ale (I think that's what it's called anyway, I can't really remember so please correct me if I'm wrong) and an 'Aspall's' later we're back on the bike's and heading for Bunny. Just out of Wysall and we saw a beautiful sunset.

With the sun going and it feeling noticeably colder it's just the ride back home, 16ish miles to go. My original plan, but hey, I'm on my bike so all is ok. Before you know it we are in East Leake and we see this little beauty (note to Norman: sorry it's not moving, I'll try harder next time.)

Going down Leake Lane hill into Stanford on Soar and Tom was gone, rear light disappering into the distance. Descent phobia mmmmm!?! After I finally catch up with him, legs aching like a *******, we ride back to Barrow and part ways.

All in all a great ride, albeit a little further than anticipated. But like I said, beer was involved so what could I do? :)

If you go past the rail line at East Leak on a Sunday there is a good chance you will see the steam train from the Heretage Centre at Ruddington.
