Running with Friends

I haven't seen roads this straight and land this flat since I visited Oklahoma in high school. So, I took advantage of them.
This was my fist morning in Baton Rouge. The entirety of the previous day was spent traveling, the only exercise being the mad dash from the tarmac of Charlotte International Airport to the boarding gate of my connecting flight to New Orleans. I was ready for something, even if I felt like it was going to be a sorry attempt at a good run.
My friend Roger, a far more accomplished runner than myself, took to the blacktop with me. I'm glad he did, even though he left me for the alligators to find along the road, the challenge of a better runner pushed me to go harder. Roger leaving me to perish along the side of the road.

It was an absolutely beautiful morning. There was not a cloud in the sky. My only complaint was the humidity. I sweat. I sweat a lot. That morning, I think you could have wrung my shirt out, and supplied enough salt water to have filled Chandeleur Sound. Okay, maybe not. But it sure felt like it.

Running laps it really not my thing, but I'm pretty sure if I had left the subdivision I would have been viewed as one of the gators the locals try to hit on the highway. It's a game to them. Points and all, I believe.
I really do believe that this guy has the right idea.
Somehow I managed to muster up enough energy to pull out 3.1 miles. That may seem small, but for me, it was a big deal. I had not been able to hit the 3.1-mile mark since August. Hills or no hills, this was still an accomplishment for me.

The rest of the week - accomplish something for someone else.
