Rails to Trails 22nd Annual Ride
48.5 miles logged on 10/02/16… My first Rails to Trails of the Withlacoochee, Inc ride! The day was great with the temps in the mid 60’s. Caught a beautiful sunrise off a small lake on the trail. John, Jesse, and myself completed the 48-mile ride. The first 24 miles felt too easy as the entire trail was flat. We normally train on hilly roads to get ready for this and other events. During the ride back to where we started from my hands were tearing up with me peeling some skin off my fingers during the sag stops. And no, I don’t wear gloves and it did not hurt. It was just some skin that had callused up. At the 42 mile mark I started to run out of gas. My bike speed dropped quickly from 16.5 mph to 13 mph. It was like I was peddling the same but the bike was not moving fast. Felt bad for a cyclist that I passed who had a flat and was walking the trail back with bike in tow. Finished up the 6.5 miles exhausted but set a bunch of personal records for distance, power (watts) and speed. Training on the hilly roads paid huge dividends! Enjoy the pictures! Until the next ride! Stay safe out there! #handcycle #justdoingit #eyesopennofear #InMyELEMNT
