Story for My Personal Heaven
Some people see Autumn as the harbinger of doom that is winter but the beautiful display of the dying leaves turning into so many wonderful colours makes it for me, as wonderful as Spring. After wimping out yesterday I couldn't wait to get out the door and within a few kilometers I was deep into the country lanes that surround my town. The first photo stop came at Roost Hole Pond (above) before taking the ever more scenic route across to Plumbers Plain and Slaugham Pond. I have been visiting this place for decades now and love it in all seasons. Today I was delighted to make the acquaintance of an eldery gentlemen and his Springer Spaniel who kindly gave me a digestive biscuit in a bid to tempt the large carp into making an appearance. Apparently the carp prefers bread and stayed resolutely out of sight.
Feeling spritely I made an effort on the Coos Lane climb to improve my segment PB, an effort rewarded with a 40 second gain! The slopes of the local Hill Climb TT were tackled in a far more gentile fashion.
On the way home I decided to experiment with the A24 to see what the fascination some cyclists have for riding inches away from 70mph trucks, vans and cars is all about and it's safe to say it's lost on me? I made a quick exit after just 1km back onto the safety of the lanes and soft pedalled my way home.
How much longer this year's glorious autumn display will last I don't know but I am determined to make the most of every moment of it.
