Story of my slippy sliddy exhilarating 10k run in the snow at -5c. Had to stop when I couldn't feel my toes.
After an evening of drinking Finnish Gin (which as a friend pointed out was not an instruction) it was time to head out and gear myself up for some winter running. My premise was that if I could run in the snow and ice at -5c, running in the winter in the UK would be a cinch. If I'm going to be ready for the London Marathon it means training sessions can't be missed and self motivation just to get out the door is, as I have discovered, just as an important mindset as the run itself. So with a cold sharpness of breath, 4 layers, thermal leggings and new trail shoes I set off with the crunch of freshly fallen snow underfoot through a magical setting of a Finnish forest. 10k later I couldn't feel my toes but I did feel a sense of mindfullness that every runner I've ever spoken to feels when they been at one with their surroundings. My reward was the Finnish tradition of a very hot sauna and more Finnish Gin, which of course is what I did!
