Beat the rain

Rain has been forecast for today, so when I awoke at 630 and there was no sign of wetness (yet), I thought it best to get an early ride in.

From my homebase in Kaneohe, I thought about riding north to Kaaawa but the sky looked dark in that direction, so I opted to ride south to Kailua and then perhaps further to Waimanalo.

Good thing I didn't head to Waimanalo because I found out after the fact that a Christmas parade was being held there, which probably would have meant blocked roads.

Had an unusual tailwind while riding toward Kailua on Kaneohe Bay Drive and then over the Mokapu saddle.  Had a surprising 2nd best time (for me) on the 2.2 mile Mokulele to Kapaa Quarry Rd segment even though I was not intentionally pushing the pace.  I attribute it to the tailwind, especially on the descent of Mokapu saddle to the quarry road which typically is a pretty stiff headwind.

This was just my second ride of the week (I usually ride 4 to 5 times) mostly because of the rainy weather during the week, lots of essays to grade, and just not feeling it.

Nonetheless, it was good to be out on the road in the saddle.
