Reno to Mendocino: Day 3, from the Sierra through the Central Valley
Day 3 was the longest day of the trip: we dropped out of the Sierras and biked throught the Central Valley to the only RV park that would allow a bunch of tents.
(work in progress)
The day started with a fun singletrack in the forest
The GPS track we were following wasn't matching any of the trails, and we ended up bushwacking for 20 minutes until we found a road.
Things were smooth once we got back into the forest roads, even if we were 45 minutes behind everybody else in the group.
Once out of the forest, we went back on the road. We lost something like 10,000 feet on this day, the descent were pretty amazing.
The last 60 miles were through the valley: hot, flat, and busy with cars. Not the best riding. It reminded me so much of Illinois!
We drafted to make the passing tollerable, and we made it to the camp with time to spare before the night.
