Story behind Heartbreak Ridge

Whilst this wasn't the longest or the hardest or the hilliest route i've ever done, it probably is the coolest route i'll ever cover.
It came at the end of a week of cycling across Vietnam and Cambodia with a great team of people on an Action Challenge, well, challenge and it took in the incredibly beautiful temples of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm, (the Tomb Raider temple).
By coincidence, Angelina Jolie was at Angkor Wat promoting a new film although we didn't see her (restraining orders and all that ;-) ).
The elevation gain and average speed are nothing to write home about, but that wasn't the point of this route, the point was the temples.
That said, since this is Strava-powered, I should mention the suffer score... this was no easy pedal, the ride kicked off about four hours after finally stepping down off a podium in the Temple Bar (Siem Ream, google it, its wild!), it was hot, we were dehydrated, nobody bothered to wear padded shorts :-0 and there was a fair bit of single track jungle thrown in.

Would I recommend this route - hell yes!
Should you do it hungover - hell no!

But that kind of made it all the more fun to do and looking back, I can't think of a route i've done to date that I enjoyed more.
