Canaccord Corporate Cup event 1
I've opened WordPress on probably twenty different occasions this year with thoughts broadly along the lines of "oh I really should post again" swiftly followed by a general lack of topics to write about.
You see, my running is a tiny bit aimless at the moment. This year, we've opted to defer Liverpool to 2022, had Reading delay to November and had Silverstone just let us down by being a bit rubbish (borderline dishonest actually).
I've done a reasonable amount of running. Plenty of walking, a bit of cycling on a new spin bike we bought, but a little bit less running than the last couple of years.
That running has been ok, but definitely not yet at the level of last autumn. However, I did have the opportunity of testing myself in the return of the Canaccord Corporate Cup.
Race 1 was held a few weeks ago and I went into it expecting a tough race but hoping to get under 25 minute pace for a 5k.
That was "hoping", rather than "expecting". I might get there, but I'd give it a go.
In the end, the race went very well. I set out at a sub 25 minute pace and quite simply held it. Dead consistent pace for the first 3k. Slight acceleration into the 4th kilo and finish strongly for the 5th.
I got a finish time for the shortened 3 mile course of 24:02.6 - on track for a sub 25 minute 5k for sure. Far from my fastest but still well at the top end of my expectations.
Then the weekend before last I had the pleasure of being there for the restart of parkrun in Jersey. It was busy but if you accept not crowding the start line and taking it more casually there's really nothing to be concerned about. I built it into a much longer 15k run, which all in all went really well.
Now I'm mulling over whether to take part in the Durrell Challenge in a few weeks time, contemplating parkrun this weekend and looking forward to the next Canaccord run as well.
Racing is back, and I'm delighted!
