Konstanz or bust! My first 100-mile ride for several decades

This ride came about because a family member asked me to bicycle-courier an item they had bought on eBay from a seller in Konstanz, Germany. (Before you ask, it was because it was very fragile, as opposed to any other possible reason!)
When I looked up the distance, I saw that it would be almost exactly 100 miles, and I was up for the challenge - not having ridden 100 miles in a day since 1982 (when I achieved the feat twice)! I was recently looking through some of my old cycling logs and I found the entry for that very first 100-miler, on 15th June 1982 in Austria, which I have reconstructed as a Strava route.
But back to the present. It was a beautiful morning when I set off, cool but sunny, and promising to turn into an unseasonably hot day for mid-April. I started off in familiar territory, cutting the corner through Germany and stopping at one of my favourite bakeries to buy a pastry for a second breakfast a bit further on beside the Rhine Falls.
After "refuelling", I continued by following the
Eurovelo 15 Rhine Cycle Path, which takes the rider along a mix of quiet roads and easy forest tracks, not always directly on the river bank, but generally following the river upstream. In fact, EV15 is not one cycle path but two parallel paths, one on each side of the Rhine; I stuck to the one on the northern, "German" side - although the way the border is drawn, the route is constantly crossing and recrossing between Germany and Switzerland. Good thing they are both in Schengen Zone and I didn't have to keep stopping for passport checks, otherwise I'd probably still be there!
The next small town I reached was Stein am Rhein, which is just inside Switzerland at the point where the Rhine flows out of Lake Constance. The day was starting to get warm by this time. It's a really beautiful little town of cobbled streets, timbered houses and murals - well worth a visit - but on this occasion I only stopped for long enough to refill my water bottles, and to get a passer-by to take my photo.

After Stein am Rhein, my route stayed in Switzerland, following the southern shore of the Untersee ("Lower Lake") part of Lake Constance, where I found a lovely lakeside picnic spot to eat my sandwiches.

Then pressed on to Konstanz, where I re-crossed the German border and entered the town pretty much dead on time for my 12.30 ETA with the eBay vendor, who was very friendly and gave me more coffee and more water bottle refills.
Having dealt with business, it would have been a shame not to carry on through Konstanz old town down to the lakeside, and the harbour with its bizarrely erotic 1993 statue "Imperia". That is SO German!! It even rotates, so you can get to ogle the female figure from all angles!
Looking at this photo below, I can't see how I managed not to dump my bike into the lake while taking it - although it felt safe enough at the time...
And, as the day had indeed turned out to be a scorcher, ice cream was of course mandatory before starting off on the homeward leg.

I retraced along the lake as far as Stein am Rhein, where I turned off on a more direct - but somewhat more hilly - route than my outward one. As the distance was much more than I'm used to (I don't often go over 100km in a day, never mind 100 miles), I had planned plenty of bail-out options where I could take the train. In the end, though, I had the opposite problem towards the end of the ride - I was still going well, but the recorded distance on Strava suggested that I would fall short of the magic 100 mile mark, so I had to introduce an extra zig-zag to make up the distance!
And afterwards, I was even fit to go out for another ride the next day...
