First outing in my new Merrell Vapor Glove 3 Barefoot running shoes

I've been interested in barefoot running for a few months now, reading up on the supposed benefits and runner reviews from people who have made the transition themselves.

I decided I wanted to try it out properly during a recent holiday, I took my shoes off and covered a short distance. Surprisingly it didn't hurt my feet like I thought it would, and I decided there and then that my next shoes would be 'barefoot' as they offer a more natural running style, and reduces the risk of injury.

I researched lots of different brands, finally settling on the Merrell Vapor Glove 3, with a score of 93/100 on runrepeat .com (a running shoe review website for runners by runners).

So, they arrived today (got to love Amazon Prime next day delivery), and I eagerly slipped them on, no socks! I headed out the door and completed a short 1km run (although strava didn't record it all because my battery died on my watch).

The sensation was immediately different, I could feel the floor underneath my feet and every little undulation or groove was providing me with feedback, tweaking my running style with every step to incorporate the new shoes. It's only the first outing, but early signs are positive and have me wanting more.

Am I immediately going to start running marathons in them? No, I'm not completely mad. Over the next few weeks, I'll transition from my current minimalist shoes over to the new barefoot style. Wish me luck!
